ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Education is reporting a slight drop in the state’s four-year graduation rate in 2023.
Data show just over 83% of high school students earned their diplomas on time last year.
The statewide graduation rate for public school students dipped by less than .5% from 2022. The small decrease is due, in part, to errors in tracking students, particularly when they transferred schools.
Education leaders say that finding emphasizes the need for schools to keep track of — and report — every single student during their high school career.
The data also show slight decreases in the graduation rates for Black, Asian, and Latino students, and students learning English.
